vHost Policy
As a user, you can request a vHost (‘vanity hosts’) on Darkmyst by using HostServ.
A vHost changes the ‘host’ other people see you connecting with. For example, you might normally be identified on IRC by pinkgothic@y1c2p06xd.dip9.t-ipconnect.de, but choose to request the vHost method.to.madness. If accepted, you would appear as pinkgothic@method.to.madness to users in future.
Since this is a highly visible customisation, there are a few rules that vHosts on Darkmyst need to abide by before they are accepted:
Rules
vHosts must…
- be limited to 63 characters total.
- include at least one period (.) and only letters, numbers, periods (.) and dashes (-) are allowed.
- not look like an IP address (e.g. 127.0.0.1).
- not be used to impersonate any entity, e.g. DarkMyst staff, individual users, government agencies or private corporations (e.g. whitehouse.gov or microsoft.com).
- For this reason, we deny VHOSTs that contain existing or unregistered domains that you cannot demonstrate ownership of.
- not be advertisements (e.g. join.us.at.notdarkmyst.com).
- be tasteful. No racism, sexism, politics, profanity, drugs, pornography, or illegal activities.
- be approved by DarkMyst staff.
A vHost is a privilege. DarkMyst staff reserves the right to reject/remove any vHost.
